About Go Sun Smart
Sun Safety for High Altitude Ski Area Employees and Guests (Go Sun Smart)
The goal of this program is to provide employees with information about ways to protect their skin from the sun. Program materials include posters, newsletter articles, tip cards, and an interactive website. Researchers are also studying how sun safety information is passed from employees to ski area guests.
Go Sun Smart was created with the help of twenty-eight ski areas who participated in a study funded by the National Cancer Institute. The participating ski areas were in the Western United States and Canada. The study measured the effectiveness of the sun safety program. The program is designed for ski area employees and guests.
Currently, the program is being disseminated to ski areas across the entire United States and Canada through a second study funded by the National Cancer Institute. Researchers at four institutions are leading the study. They include Klein Buendel, Inc. in Denver, The University of Kentucky, San Diego State University, California State University Chico, and the University of Colorado Denver.
Welcome to The Go Sun Smart Website!
Ski resort employees and guests who work and recreate outdoors in the high altitude, snow, and sun need to take action to protect themselves from the harmful UV rays of the sun. UV radiation in sunshine causes sunburns, cataracts, early aging of the ski and skin cancer, including the most deadly skin cancer, melanoma.
The Go Sun Smart program offers you tips on how you can easily protect your skin and eyes. So, when you go to work and play, Go Sun Smart!
